Salma Hayek had her first large Hollywood role with Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Later she made her name with Frida and her Academy Award nomination. Hayek was also involved with television as director of Ugly Betty and other hit programs. Salma Hayek's life was born on September 2 1996, the day she was born to her Spanish father and a Lebanese mother, in Coatzacoalcos. Born into a privileged Catholic family, Hayek attended a convent school in Louisiana at the age of twelve and stayed with her aunt in Houston, Texas, during her teens. When she was in Mexico City she briefly attended the university but dropped out in order to focus on acting. She eventually was a leading character in Mexican telenovelas. The first film role she played in 1991, the edgy Hayek, moved to Los Angeles in California to study English and become an Hollywood actor. She landed small roles before landing a leading part in the film Desperado in which she starred alongside Antonio Banderas.
